TouchBistro in Canada: who processes your card payments, and can you change that?

TouchBistro is an iPad point of sale built for restaurants, bars and cafés. It started in Toronto, and in July 2026 it was bought by Harris, part of Constellation Software. Harris says TouchBistro runs in more than 16,000 restaurants in over 100 countries. In Canada, TouchBistro does not process cards itself. It connects to an outside processor, and that processor decides which terminals you use and what your staff can do at the table.

The short answer

  • TouchBistro lists three processors for Canada. Its help centre names Chase Merchant Services, TD and Moneris (read 5 November 2026). TouchBistro also sells its own TouchBistro Payments, which it says runs on Moneris in Canada.
  • The processor decides your terminals. Chase and TD run on the Desk/5000 and the Move/5000. Moneris runs on the DX 8000 and the A35.
  • Moneris covers the most at the table. TouchBistro's table shows offline payments and tableside payments on both Moneris devices. With Chase and TD, only the Move/5000 goes to the table, and neither takes payments offline.
  • It is not an option for Quebec restaurants today. TouchBistro was not on Revenu Québec's list of certified sales recording systems on 1 October 2026, and a Quebec restaurant covered by mandatory billing must use one.
  • Changing processors is possible inside TouchBistro's list. It takes a new merchant account and, in most cases, new terminals.

The processors TouchBistro works with in Canada

This is TouchBistro's own list, read on 5 November 2026. TouchBistro can change it, so read the live article before you sign anything.

Moneris and TouchBistro have worked together since 2013. On 6 October 2025, Moneris announced an expanded partnership: full integration with Moneris Go payment devices, so servers can split and settle bills at the table on a Moneris terminal.

TouchBistro in Quebec

Since 1 June 2025, a Quebec restaurant covered by mandatory billing must make every bill with a sales recording system certified by Revenu Québec, and that system must send each sale to WEB-SRM. Our mandatory billing guide covers the rules, the bill and the fines.

TouchBistro was not on Revenu Québec's list on 1 October 2026. Revenu Québec says its list may not include every system, so ask TouchBistro for proof of certification before you plan around it. TouchBistro's own page for its TouchBistro One handheld also says it is offered in Canada excluding Quebec (read 6 November 2026). If you run a restaurant in Quebec, start with the certified POS list. CleverPays is a Certified Clover Dealer, and two certified systems on that list are built for Clover.

Keeping TouchBistro when you change processors

You can keep TouchBistro and change who processes your cards, as long as the new processor is on TouchBistro's list for Canada. For a change to work, all of this has to be true:

  • The new processor is on TouchBistro's Canadian list. Today that is Chase Merchant Services, TD or Moneris.
  • A new merchant account is opened. Your old merchant account and its merchant ID do not move.
  • Your terminals match the new processor. Moving between Chase or TD and Moneris means different terminals. Chase and TD list the same models, but each terminal is set up for one processor, so it is re-keyed or replaced.
  • The new processor is connected in your TouchBistro account. Ask TouchBistro support who does this and how long it takes, and plan the date around service.
  • Your TouchBistro subscription stays its own contract. Changing processors does not end it. Read its renewal and notice terms before you plan around a date.

Nobody can promise the result before these are checked.

If none of that fits, a standalone terminal works with any processor. The cost is the link: TouchBistro no longer sees the card result, so staff key each amount twice, and tips and refunds are matched by hand.

What to check before a change

Your processor agreement

Find your current processing agreement and note its term, its renewal date and any early termination fee. Terminals rented from your processor go back to it.

Your terminals

List each terminal by model, whether you own it or rent it, and where it is used: at the counter, at the bar or carried to the table.

How you take payments

Count how much you take at the table, at the bar, online and during outages. Offline payments and tableside payments are where the three processors differ most.

Tips and bar tabs

TouchBistro's table shows no pre-authorized tips and no bar tabs closed without the card on any Canadian processor. If your bar depends on either, check how your staff handle it today.

Your TouchBistro contract

Note your plan, your renewal date and the notice period. A processor change and a software change are separate decisions, on separate contracts.

Where CleverPays fits

TouchBistro builds the software. The processor approves and settles each card payment. CleverPays is a broker that sets up and supports payments for Canadian businesses, and Moneris, one of the three processors TouchBistro lists for Canada, is among the processors we offer.

We read your setup and name each part: your processor, your agreement, your terminals and how you take payments. Then we tell you in writing whether a move works for your restaurant and what it would touch, before anything moves.
