The short answer
- AurusPay is the go-between. It sits between your POS and your terminals, and it sends each payment to your processor.
- It is built to work with many processors. Aurus says its switch is certified with multiple processors and lets merchants choose and switch. It does not publish which ones.
- Canada is listed, but Interac is not named. Oracle's partner guide lists Canada as an operating area for Aurus. No Aurus page we read names Interac, so ask first.
- It runs on many terminals. Public lists name Ingenico Lane and Link, Verifone, Equinox and Castles models.
- Large retailers are the usual users. Aurus works with big box, grocery, specialty, health and beauty, c-store and restaurant chains.
What AurusPay does
AurusPay takes the sale from your POS, runs the terminal and sends the payment to the processor, so the store system stays away from the card data.
- Your POS
- AurusPay
- The card terminal
- The processor
- Your bank account
Your POS talks to AurusPay through Aurus software, such as its Enterprise SDK. Aurus calls that SDK the link between a merchant's systems and its X-Switch, the part that connects to processors. An Aurus patent from 2013 describes this design, where the terminal talks to a remote payment server and the rest of the store network stays out of the card data. The approval comes back to the POS on its own, so nobody keys the sale twice. For the terminal side, see semi-integrated POS.
Terminals it runs on
Aurus calls AurusPay device agnostic, and the public lists name Ingenico, Verifone, Equinox and Castles terminals.
| Device | Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Ingenico Lane/3000 | Compact countertop PIN pad | On Oracle's Aurus list. Ingenico's current TETRA page no longer shows it, so ask before you buy more |
| Ingenico Lane/3600 | Countertop PIN pad | On Oracle's Aurus list and on Ingenico's current TETRA page |
| Ingenico Lane/5000 | Countertop PIN pad with a 3.5 inch colour touchscreen | On Oracle's Aurus list |
| Ingenico Lane/7000 and Lane/8000 | Countertop PIN pads with a 5 inch or 7 inch colour touchscreen | On Oracle's Aurus list. Oracle also lists signature capture |
| Ingenico Link/2500 and Link/2500i | Portable PIN pad | On Oracle's Aurus list. Ingenico says it pairs with an iOS, Android or Windows tablet or phone |
| Ingenico Desk, Move and Self models | Countertop, portable and self-service terminals | On Oracle's Aurus list |
| Verifone P400, P400 Plus, M400 and MX915 | Countertop PIN pads | On Oracle's Aurus list, with other Verifone models |
| Equinox Luxe 8500i and Luxe 6200m | Payment terminals | On Oracle's Aurus list. Equinox announced its Aurus link in January 2025 |
| Castles S1F4 Pro, S1E4 Pro, S1P2, S2L and a tablet | Android terminals | Named in an Aurus release from January 2026. Aurus says the S1F4 Pro suits paying at the table |
None of these lists is just for Canada. Ask Aurus which of your terminal models is approved for Canada with the processor you want.
What it handles
The public lists cover credit, debit, cashback, gift cards, tokens and fleet cards, but no Aurus page names Interac, so that is the first thing to ask.
| Feature | What the public pages say |
|---|---|
| Credit cards | Credit sales and refunds are on Oracle's list. Equinox says AurusPay takes all leading card brands |
| Debit and Interac | Debit sales and refunds are on Oracle's list. Aurus does not name Interac on its own pages. Ask before you rely on it. See Interac debit |
| Cashback | The PIN pad asks for cashback and sends the amount back to the POS, on Oracle's list |
| Gift cards | Load, redeem, balance, activate and cash out are on Oracle's list. Equinox also names private-label cards |
| Wallets and tap on a phone | Wallets are on Oracle's list. Aurus Vayu takes tap payments on an iPhone, and in May 2024 Apple named Aurus among the companies that would bring Tap to Pay on iPhone to Canada |
| Offline (store and forward) | Aurus says store and forward is built into its platform. It is not on Oracle's list, so ask how it works at your lanes |
| Tokens for repeat charges | Aurus TokenVault replaces card numbers with tokens. Oracle lists refunds by token, without the card |
| Pre-authorization | Not named on the pages we read. Oracle lists manual authorization. Ask first. See pre-authorization |
| Phone and mail orders | Card-not-present entry on the PIN pad is on Oracle's list |
| Fleet cards | Aurus lists fleet card acceptance for auto and c-store sites |
| Currency conversion and cheques | Both are on Oracle's list |
| Encryption | Aurus says AurusPay is PCI P2PE certified, and Visa's partner directory lists PCI DSS, PA-DSS and P2PE |
Who uses it
Aurus says its platform handles 6 billion payment interactions a year, in 25 countries on four continents. Its industry pages cover specialty retail, big box stores, health and beauty, grocery, auto and convenience stores, quick service and fine dining, and online stores. For fuel and c-store sites, Aurus lists fleet cards and links from fuel pump devices to store controllers.
Two public examples name the POS side. Oracle publishes a guide for running Aurus with Oracle Retail Xstore POS through Oracle Retail EFTLink. Aurus also announced a link with Bite self-service kiosks in June 2026. See unattended payments. These pages are written for chains with many lanes, not for a single small shop. Ask your POS company whether your version runs AurusPay.
Keeping your POS when you change processors
AurusPay is built so the processor can change while the POS and terminals stay. Aurus says its X-Switch is certified with multiple processors, and Visa's partner directory says AurusPay lets merchants choose and switch processors and devices. Aurus also describes help with moving systems, such as test emulators, no-touch installs and onsite coordination. For a change to work at your stores, all of this has to be true.
- Your POS and its version run AurusPay. Xstore, for example, connects through EFTLink. Your version and its Aurus software have to match.
- The new processor is certified with Aurus for your setup in Canada. Aurus does not publish its processor list. Ask Aurus, and check your processor is on its list with the terminals and features you use.
- You open a new merchant account. An old merchant number does not move to another processor. See merchant account.
- Your terminals may need new keys or replacing. A terminal set up for one processor may need new keys or new software, and older models may not be offered.
- Interac has to be confirmed. Debit at a Canadian counter runs on Interac, and Aurus does not name it publicly. Get it in writing first.
- Your POS reseller or IT team does the install, with Aurus. Aurus sets up stores through its Onboard360 portal, and your team or reseller handles the POS side.
If one of these does not line up, the change is bigger than a settings change. It is better to know that before you sign anything.
What to check before a change
Your exact version
Find out which AurusPay version you run and which Aurus software your POS uses to reach it. On Xstore, Oracle lists the Aurus piece as AurusShield software.
Your terminals
List each terminal model and how many you have in each store. The Lane/3000 is on Oracle's list but no longer on Ingenico's current TETRA page.
Interac and cashback
Ask Aurus, in writing, whether Interac debit and cashback work with the new processor in Canada, by chip and by tap. Debit at a Canadian till runs on Interac, and no Aurus page names it.
Gift cards and offline
Name your gift card program and check it works with the new processor. Ask how store and forward works if a lane loses its connection.
Who supports you after
Aurus says its support team is live 24 hours a day, every day of the year, and it offers device replacement through ProCare360Lite. Your POS reseller or IT team handles the POS, and the processor handles the merchant account.
Where CleverPays fits
Aurus builds AurusPay and holds its processor certifications. Your POS reseller or IT team installs the POS side. The company that processes your card payments approves and settles each sale. CleverPays makes none of it.
We read your setup and name each part: the POS and its version, the AurusPay version, the terminals and the processor behind them. Then we tell you in writing what a change would affect, before anything moves.
