Cin7 Core and Authorize.Net in Canada: what works and how to set it up.

Yes. Cin7 Core connects to Authorize.Net, and its help centre lists Canada and Canadian dollars as supported. Your customers pay quotes and invoices from a pay link in the document you send. They can also pay at checkout in the Cin7 Core B2B Portal. Card details stay on Authorize.Net's servers. Two things need planning: refunds do not sync back to Cin7 Core, and you choose how payments reach QuickBooks Online.

A wholesale brand's office: a woman sending a trade invoice from a laptop, warehouse shelves behind.

The short answer

  • CAD is supported. Cin7 Core's table lists the United States and Canada, with USD and CAD.
  • Payments start from your documents. A merge field in your quote or invoice template adds a pay link. A plain text link will not work.
  • Customers can pay part of an invoice. The "Pay less" option lets them enter a smaller amount, such as a deposit.
  • Refunds are a two-step job. You refund in Authorize.Net, then enter the same refund in Cin7 Core by hand.
  • CIM must be on first. CIM (Customer Information Manager) is the Authorize.Net feature that stores customer cards as tokens. Cin7 Core needs it before you create an invoice.
  • No extra Cin7 subscription. Cin7 Core says payment processing does not need an add-on.

How a payment travels

A customer opens the quote or invoice you sent, clicks the pay link and lands on Authorize.Net's secure page. After a successful payment they return to the sale in Cin7 Core with a confirmation. The processor behind your Authorize.Net account then settles the money to your bank.

Canada and Canadian dollars

Cin7 Core's currency table lists the United States and Canada, with USD and CAD. Your Cin7 Core account must be set up in a currency Authorize.Net supports. Invoices go out in the currency of your Authorize.Net account.

That last point matters for exporters. Authorize.Net sets each account to one currency, as the parent page explains under CAD and USD. Cin7 Core's articles do not say whether it can send CAD invoices to one Authorize.Net account and USD invoices to another. If you bill US customers in USD, confirm that with Cin7 before you open a second account.

CleverPays can open both, a CAD Authorize.Net account and a USD one, and add American Express to them.

Limits to know before you rely on it

  • Refunds do not flow back. Cin7 Core says refunds made in Authorize.Net are not synced. Your team enters each refund in Cin7 Core by hand so the sale reconciles.
  • Decide how payments reach QuickBooks Online. Authorize.Net has its own QuickBooks Online link, and Cin7 Core also pushes these payments there. Cin7 Core says the choice is yours and it does not control it. Pick one path so each payment is recorded once.
  • Pay links need the template edit. The link only shows once the merge field is in the template and Authorize.Net is connected. Every template you send needs the change.
  • Only owners and admins connect it. You need the Cin7 Core Account Owner or Administrator login, plus the Authorize.Net API Login ID and Transaction Key.
  • The method list is broad. Cin7 Core lists cards, wallets and E-check. It does not say which work on a Canadian account. E-check runs on the US bank network, and the parent page explains why that is not Canadian pre-authorized debit.
  • This page is for Cin7 Core. Cin7 Omni is a separate product with its own gateway set-up. If you run Omni, follow Omni's help centre instead.

Who this fits

These scenarios are hypothetical examples, not real customers.

A food and beverage brand selling to grocers and cafés

A craft beverage maker in Ontario invoices independent grocers on terms. With a pay link on each invoice, a store owner pays by card the day the invoice lands. Saved payment profiles mean repeat buyers skip re-entering the card.

An apparel wholesaler taking seasonal deposits

A Montréal clothing brand takes preseason orders from boutiques months before shipping. The quote goes out with a pay link, and the boutique uses "Pay less" to pay a deposit. The balance gets paid from the invoice when the stock ships.

An example only, not a quote: a $10,000 order with a $3,000 deposit leaves $7,000 to pay from the invoice.

A building-supply distributor billing trade accounts

A distributor in Alberta sells to contractors through the Cin7 Core B2B Portal. Contractors order and pay by card at checkout. When a contractor returns material, the team refunds in Authorize.Net and then enters the refund in Cin7 Core.

Changing the processor behind Cin7 Core

Authorize.Net says a processor change does not affect your API set-up, so the API Login ID and Transaction Key in Cin7 Core can stay. Saved payment profiles stay in the same Authorize.Net account. Refunds on older sales go to the new processor, and you still enter them in Cin7 Core by hand. The parent page covers the full processor change plan.

Where CleverPays fits

Cin7 owns Cin7 Core and its Authorize.Net connector. Authorize.Net runs the gateway. The processor behind your account approves and settles payments. CleverPays does not make or support Cin7 Core, and we do not change how its connector works.

We can review your current statement with you and show what you pay today. We can open the Authorize.Net account and the Canadian merchant account behind it. We can connect it to Cin7 Core with you, then test a full payment, a partial payment, a refund and the first deposit. After launch, we can stay your contact, in English and French. We can also open a USD account and add American Express.
