The short answer
- NetSuite has no built-in Authorize.Net connection. Oracle's own help says NetSuite Connector "does not have any direct integrations" with payment gateways.
- NetSuite Pay is Oracle's own option. It works for Canadian subsidiaries and settles in CAD or USD, but only on a Versapay merchant account. You cannot bring your own.
- Other gateways connect through partner apps or custom code. What works depends on the app, the channel and the processor behind it.
- Saved cards stay with the gateway that stored them. NetSuite does not offer one gateway's saved cards to another.
- Canadian bank debit is not built in. Oracle's NetSuite Pay lists cards and ACH, and NetSuite has no Canadian debit collection format.
Four ways to take payments in NetSuite
NetSuite Pay
Oracle's own payment option, powered by Versapay. Available for US and Canadian subsidiaries. Merchant accounts come only through Versapay, and settlement is in USD or CAD depending on the subsidiary.
A gateway partner app
Gateways such as Cybersource, Windcave and Worldpay publish NetSuite apps. Oracle names Cybersource, MerchantE and PayPal Payflow Pro as its preferred partners. Each app sets what NetSuite can do with that gateway.
Authorize.Net through a connector
No Oracle-built option exists. Cloud 1001's SuiteAuthConnect connects Authorize.Net through scripts in your NetSuite account, or a developer builds a custom connection.
Your web store takes the payment
Shopify, WooCommerce or another store charges the card, and an integration brings the order and payment reference into NetSuite. NetSuite records the sale. Capturing or refunding from NetSuite later needs its own connection.
The layers behind every payment
A NetSuite payment passes through several parties. Changing one does not always mean changing the others.
- NetSuite record (order or invoice)
- Connector or partner app
- Payment gateway
- Processor and merchant account
- Your Canadian bank account
| Layer | What it controls | The question to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Your legal entity | Who signs and receives the funds | Which NetSuite subsidiary sells? |
| Processor and merchant account | Approval, deposits and most of the cost | Is this account set up for Canada and the right currency? |
| Gateway account | Card details, saved cards, transaction references | Which account and currency does each payment use? |
| Connector | Charges, captures and refunds from NetSuite | Who wrote it, and who supports it? |
| Payment page | Where the customer pays | Web checkout, invoice link, phone or NetSuite itself? |
| Reconciliation | Matching deposits and fees to NetSuite | Can finance match each deposit to the bank? |
What is different in Canada
- CAD and USD need separate setups. Oracle needs one payment profile for each currency and bank account you settle to. Authorize.Net sets each account to one currency. We open both, a CAD account and a USD account.
- Canadian bank debit is a gap. NetSuite Pay lists debit cards, credit cards and ACH. Oracle's direct debit formats do not include Canada, and its Canadian bank file (CPA-005) is for paying vendors and refunds. Authorize.Net's eCheck is for US bank accounts only.
- SuiteCommerce Advanced allows one gateway per website. Oracle says one subsidiary and one gateway per SuiteCommerce Advanced site. Several subsidiaries need separate sites or Site Builder.
- Commercial card savings need proof. NetSuite can send purchase card data (Level 2 and 3). Whether a Canadian transaction qualifies depends on the gateway, the processor and the card. Authorize.Net's Level 2/3 table lists only TSYS, which settles in USD.
Comparing the routes
What each route's own documentation says. "Not stated" means we could not find it in that vendor's documentation, not that it is impossible.
| Question | NetSuite Pay | Gateway partner app | Authorize.Net via connector | Web store plus sync |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Can you choose your processor? | No, Versapay only | Depends on the app | Yes, behind Authorize.Net | Depends on the store |
| Canadian subsidiaries | Yes | Per app (Oracle lists Canada for Windcave) | Yes, with a CAD processor | Per store |
| CAD settlement | Yes | Per app | Yes, on four listed processors | Per store |
| Charge from a NetSuite invoice | Yes | Per app | Yes, with the connector | No |
| NetSuite web store checkout | Yes, Oracle says it works with NetSuite ecommerce | Per app | Not with SuiteAuthConnect | Not applicable |
| Saved cards | Not stated | Per app | Yes, at Authorize.Net | At the store's gateway |
| Canadian bank debit (PAD) | Not stated (ACH listed) | Per app | No (eCheck is US only) | Per store |
Why work with CleverPays on NetSuite payments
- One review of the whole cost. We read your statement with you: gateway, interchange, card network fees and markup, with your effective rate.
- You choose who processes. We supply the Canadian merchant account behind Authorize.Net or NMI, in CAD and USD, matched to how you sell.
- We build the connection when one is needed. Our development team can scope a custom connection between NetSuite and your gateway: charges, captures, refunds and saved cards.
- We test past the first approval. A payment, a refund, a capture on shipment and the first deposit, before you rely on it.
- One contact after launch. In English and French.
Already using NMI?
NMI publishes no native NetSuite integration. Its own list of integrations names one outside billing tool for NetSuite. If your gateway is NMI, our developers can scope a custom connection to NetSuite, and we can review the merchant account behind it.
