Acumatica and Authorize.Net in Canada: what changed and what to do now.

Acumatica ended support for its Authorize.Net plug-in on 30 June 2025. It says customers on Authorize.Net, on any Acumatica version, can no longer rely on it to process payments. Acumatica recommends its own product, Acumatica Payments. Its help also documents a Stripe plug-in, and other providers sell plug-ins of their own. Before you move, plan for the cards your customers saved at Authorize.Net and for refunds on older payments.

The short answer

  • The Authorize.Net plug-in is unsupported. Acumatica ended support on 30 June 2025 and expects no further extensions.
  • Acumatica recommends Acumatica Payments. Its help says it works for merchants in the US and Canada only.
  • Saved cards sit at Authorize.Net. They do not move to a new route by themselves. Acumatica says its payments sales team guides token migration.
  • Keep the old account open for a while. Refunds and chargebacks on older sales still need somewhere to go.
  • Compare the full cost first. Put the new pricing next to your current Authorize.Net and processing statement.

Acumatica gave security as the reason. It said keeping a secure Authorize.Net integration was not feasible to its standard.

Your options now

RouteWhat Acumatica's documentation says
Acumatica PaymentsAcumatica's recommended plug-in. Works without software changes from 2023 R2. US and Canada merchants only. Its sales team sets the rates and the agreement.
Stripe processing centerA built-in plug-in. It must be included in your Acumatica licence. The help page does not mention Canada.
Third-party plug-inAcumatica says other third-party payment solutions exist in its ecosystem. It also warns that future security rules may restrict them.

Acumatica's 2020 R2 plug-in guide shows how developers can build their own card-processing plug-ins. If you look at one, ask its maker three things. Does it run on your Acumatica version? Does it take a Canadian merchant account? Does it settle in CAD?

The Retail Commerce exception

On 30 June 2025, Acumatica said it would keep supporting Authorize.Net for Retail Commerce customers. That covers payments taken in Shopify and BigCommerce and synced into Acumatica. It lasts until Acumatica Payments works fully with both. Ask your partner whether that exception still applies to you.

Canada and Canadian dollars

Acumatica's help says Acumatica Payments works for merchants in the US and Canada only. The pages we read do not say which currencies it settles in, so ask.

In Acumatica, the cash account on a processing center sets the currency for its payments. Acumatica's Authorize.Net help said each currency needed its own merchant account and processing center. Authorize.Net also sets one currency per account. If you bill in CAD and USD today, you likely run two accounts. Check that your new route covers both.

If you keep Authorize.Net for a Retail Commerce store, or move to a route that takes a merchant account of your choice, CleverPays can open CAD and USD accounts and add American Express.

What to check before you move

  • Your Acumatica version. Acumatica says customers on 2023 R2 or later can set up Acumatica Payments without software changes.
  • Bank payments. Acumatica Payments describes ACH and EFT payments. Its pages do not say whether that covers Canadian pre-authorized debit. eCheck is a US network, so treat this as a separate question.
  • Level 3 data. Acumatica says Acumatica Payments supports Level 3 data on eligible commercial cards. That only lowers your cost if your pricing passes interchange through.
  • In-person payments. Acumatica Payments documents EMV (chip) card readers through the Acumatica mobile app. Check which readers it supports before you buy any.
  • Who owns the Authorize.Net account. If a partner or reseller set it up, they may control changes and closure.

Moving stored cards and open orders

Acumatica's Authorize.Net plug-in kept card data at Authorize.Net, in its Customer Information Manager (CIM). Acumatica only stored two IDs: a customer profile ID and a payment profile ID. The cards themselves do not move to another gateway on their own.

Acumatica's setup guide says the Acumatica Payments sales rep guides you through moving tokens from your previous gateway. Get the steps in writing before cutover. Nobody should promise your cards will carry over until both sides confirm it.

A cutover plan, in order:

  1. List customers with saved cards and recurring charges.
  2. Capture or void open authorizations on sales orders, and note what still needs to ship.
  3. Run a small live payment and a refund on the new route. Then check the first deposit.
  4. Keep the Authorize.Net account open until refunds and chargebacks on older sales are done.

Who this fits

These are example business types. The scenarios are hypothetical.

Distributors billing trade accounts

A building-supply or industrial distributor in Ontario with hundreds of contractor accounts. Cards are saved on file and charged when orders ship. The token move and open authorizations are the main risk.

Manufacturers with deposits and partial shipments

A Quebec equipment maker takes a deposit, ships in parts, then invoices the rest. Acumatica Payments documents keeping the remaining order amount pre-authorized after a partial capture. Test that flow with your own orders.

Construction and specialty contractors

A mechanical contractor billing progress invoices to general contractors. Payment links on invoices matter more than saved cards. If customers pay by business card, Level 3 data can matter.

Where CleverPays fits

Acumatica owns its plug-ins and decides which ones it supports. Authorize.Net runs its gateway. The processor behind each route approves and settles the payments. CleverPays has no Acumatica plug-in and no partnership with Acumatica. We do not provide Acumatica Payments.

We can review your current statement and show what you pay today, gateway and processing together. We can explain the routes above and compare the cost of Acumatica Payments against your statement. If you choose a route that takes a merchant account from a provider of your choice, we can open that account, connect it with you, test payments, refunds and the first deposit, and stay your contact after launch, in English and French. Where the route allows it, we can open CAD and USD accounts and add American Express.
