The short answer
- Restaurants: Online Ordering, on the Counter Service or Table Service plan.
- Stores: an online store and website, on Retail Growth.
- Service businesses: online booking, on Services Growth.
- Anyone who needs to send a bill: payment links, invoices or Virtual Terminal.
- Your own website: a plugin or Clover's gateway. Security work may then be yours.
- Every online sale carries card-not-present fees, a different type from an in-person tap.
Which Clover tool do you need?
| You want to | Clover tool | Plan Clover names | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Take pick-up and delivery orders | Online Ordering | Counter Service or Table Service | Needs a Station Duo, Mini or Flex connected to a printer |
| Let seated guests order by phone | Scan to Order | Counter Service or Table Service | Codes printed from the dashboard carry table numbers |
| Sell products with a shopping cart | Online Store | Retail Growth | Stock stays in step with your in-store Clover |
| Take bookings for services | Online booking | Services Growth | Includes a simple hosted website |
| Send a link, button or QR code to get paid | Payment links | Ask | Clover says no extra fees or hardware |
| Key in a card taken by phone | Virtual Terminal | Ask | Clover's device pages name it. Keyed sales can carry different card fees |
| Add card payments to your own site | Clover Gateway or a plugin | Ask | You take on more of the security work |
Online ordering for restaurants
Clover says there are no added subscription or commission fees for online ordering. Normal transaction fees stay, and card-not-present interchange applies. It isn't offered on the Payments Plus or Register Lite plans.
Three things from Clover's Canadian help are worth knowing:
- You can stop or pause it. Pausing for a set time restarts ordering on its own, which helps when the kitchen is slammed.
- You can choose pick-up, curbside or dine-in. DoorDash Drive delivery is marked U.S. only.
- Your online menu can differ from your in-store one. You can rename or hide items online.

An online store for retail
Clover lists a branded website and online store on Retail Growth, not on Essentials, along with one dashboard for online and in-store sales. If you already have a store elsewhere, Clover says you can connect it from Essentials up. Ask how stock would stay in step, since that may take a paid app.
Online booking for services
Clover's booking website is on Services Growth. It's a simple site: a home page, your services, an About page, up to 5 categories and your own domain if you want it. Clover says it costs nothing extra to create, but your plan and processing fees still apply.
Payment links and invoices
Clover's help says a payment link can be a button, a URL or a QR code, and it opens Clover's Hosted Checkout. You can use one for products, subscriptions or donations, with no extra fees and no hardware.
That makes links useful for a deposit on a catering order, a repair bill or a one-off donation. Tell customers to expect the link, so they know it's really from you.
Clover's app list also names InvoiceASAP for estimates, invoices and payment links.
If you want to keep your own website
Clover's help names payment plugins for Shopify, WooCommerce and Adobe Commerce. Before you pick one, check who built it, whether it saves cards for repeat customers, and whether it handles subscriptions. Don't assume saved cards or subscriptions move across from your current gateway.
Who handles card security?
Since April 2025, card rules cover scripts running on online payment pages. Clover's Canadian help says who's responsible depends on how you connect:
| How you take payments online | Who handles those script rules |
|---|---|
| Clover-hosted: Virtual Terminal, Hosted Checkout, Online Ordering, Online Shopping, Online Booking | Clover. No extra action for those two requirements |
| A plugin on Shopify, WooCommerce or Adobe Commerce | The vendor. Ask how they comply |
| Your own build using Clover's API or an iframe | You |
| A website that doesn't connect to Clover | Contact Clover support about its security service |
This covers two requirements, not all of PCI. Clover's dashboard shows your own compliance status and says it updates every 7 days, and a banner appears if you're non-compliant. Check it, because Clover warns non-compliance can lead to higher costs or a lost contract.
Common questions
Can Clover do online ordering?
Yes, for restaurants on the Counter Service or Table Service plan. It needs a Station Duo, Mini or Flex connected to a printer.
Does Clover have a website builder?
Sort of. Retail Growth includes a branded website and store, and Services Growth includes a hosted booking site. Both are simple. They aren't general website builders.
Does Clover work with WooCommerce or Shopify?
Clover's help mentions payment plugins for both. The plugin's vendor is responsible for its own security compliance, so ask them directly.
Is there a fee for Clover payment links?
Clover says there are no extra fees or hardware, but normal card fees still apply to the sale.
Are online card fees different from in-person fees?
They're a different type. Clover says card-not-present interchange applies to online orders, so your statement can look different from your in-store sales. Our fee guide explains the types.
Is Clover online available in Canada?
Yes. These are all from Clover's Canadian site and help, with exceptions marked, such as DoorDash Drive.
